Gigabyte M32UC Review: 8.4/10 - Affordable 4K 160Hz Gaming
Overview
The Gigabyte M32UC brings 4K gaming at 160 Hz to a surprisingly affordable price point. This 31.5-inch curved VA monitor combines high resolution with a fast refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 support, making it equally appealing for PC gamers and next-gen console users. While VA panel limitations like black smearing and modest HDR keep it from perfection, the value proposition is hard to ignore at $449.
Design & Build
The M32UC sports a clean, understated gaming look with a three-sided thin bezel design and a subtle 1500R curve that enhances immersion without distorting on-screen geometry. The stand offers height adjustment (100 mm range) and tilt (-5 to 20 degrees), but lacks swivel and pivot. The build quality is reassuringly solid with minimal wobble, and a cable management channel runs through the stand neck to keep your desk tidy. The OSD joystick on the rear edge is well positioned and paired with a logically laid-out menu. For those who prefer monitor arms, VESA 100x100 support is included.
Performance
At 4K 144 Hz (overclockable to 160 Hz), the M32UC delivers fluid, tear-free gaming with FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support. The VA panel achieves a 3000:1 native contrast ratio, producing deep, inky blacks that easily outperform IPS alternatives in dark scenes. Measured brightness hits about 500 nits in SDR, well above the 350-nit spec. Color coverage is excellent at 93% DCI-P3 with good out-of-box accuracy, though some oversaturation in the native gamut is present. The sRGB emulation mode clamps this effectively, but we preferred using the Custom preset for most content. The biggest compromise is black-level smearing: dark transitions are noticeably slower than on fast IPS panels, especially at 60 Hz. At 160 Hz the issue mostly disappears, but it remains a factor in slower-paced games and dark desktop themes. Input lag measures around 4 ms, which is imperceptible in real use.
Features
HDMI 2.1 support at 24 Gbps bandwidth enables full 4K 144 Hz on PS5 and Xbox Series X, making the M32UC a strong option for console-first gamers. The USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 18 W charging, though it cannot drive the full resolution at the highest refresh rates. A built-in KVM switch lets you control two connected devices with a single keyboard and mouse, and Picture-in-Picture / Picture-by-Picture modes are useful for multitasking. Gigabyteβs OSD Sidekick software provides mouse-driven control over all monitor settings, and the Aim Stabilizer Sync motion blur reduction feature works alongside VRR as long as framerates stay above 80 FPS. The integrated 2W speakers are present but we recommend using dedicated speakers or headphones.
Pros
- 4K 160 Hz gaming performance at an unbeatable price
- Excellent native contrast ratio with deep VA blacks
- HDMI 2.1 support for full-bandwidth console gaming
- Built-in KVM switch and PiP/PbP for productivity
- Decent out-of-box color accuracy with wide DCI-P3 coverage
Cons
- Noticeable black smearing on dark transitions, especially at lower refresh rates
- HDR performance is underwhelming without local dimming
- Stand lacks swivel and pivot adjustment
- USB-C limited to 18 W power delivery
- Built-in speakers are weak and tinny
Verdict
The Gigabyte M32UC delivers outstanding value as a 4K high-refresh gaming monitor. The combination of a curved VA panel with deep contrast, HDMI 2.1 connectivity, and an overclockable 160 Hz refresh rate at $449 is tough to beat. It is not the right choice for competitive esports players who demand the fastest pixel response, and HDR enthusiasts should look elsewhere. But for mainstream gamers and hybrid workstations that want vivid colors, smooth motion, and big-screen 4K resolution without breaking the bank, the M32UC is one of the best values available today.
