How We Rate
Our mission is to help you find better tech at better prices.
At ComfyTechCheck, every product is scored across the same four criteria, no matter the category. We weight those criteria differently for each category because a GPU's performance matters more than its build quality, while a smartphone's daily usability matters more than its raw specs. One criteria set. Real weights. No guesswork.
The Four Criteria
Every product is judged on these four factors:
- Performance & Capabilities 40% Does it do its core job well? Speed, accuracy, quality of output (sound, image, sensor, processing).
- Build & Design Quality 30% Materials, construction quality, durability, form factor, aesthetic.
- Consumer Value 20% Price-to-performance ratio relative to direct competitors in the same tier.
- User Experience 10% Ease of setup, daily usability, comfort, ergonomics, satisfaction over time.
Category Weights
The same four criteria, weighted to reflect what matters most to real buyers in each category:
Rating Scale
ComfyTechCheck only publishes full reviews for products we recommend. Every review on this site represents a product that earned at least a 7.0 out of 10. Products that score below 7.0 are not recommended and are therefore not published as standalone reviews.
- 9.0 - 10 - Excellent. Outstanding in nearly every way. Highly recommended.
- 8.0 - 8.9 - Great. Solid performance with minor drawbacks. A strong choice.
- 7.0 - 7.9 - Good. Competent and reliable, but has noticeable trade-offs.
- Below 7.0 - Not Recommended. Not published as a standalone review.
How We Review
Our research process combines hands-on testing with rigorous secondary research to ensure every review is thorough and trustworthy. Here is how we gather and verify the information behind each rating:
- Hands-on testing: When we can obtain a product, we use it as a real owner would for a minimum of several days. We test setup, daily use, durability, and any claimed features.
- Secondary research: For products we cannot test directly, we compile data from verified purchaser reviews on major retail platforms, technical spec analysis, expert roundups, and long-term user forums.
- Cross-referencing: We compare findings across multiple authoritative sources, including professional reviewers, standards organizations, and community knowledge bases, to build a consensus view.
- Transparent scoring: Each review's rating is calculated using our weighted criteria framework and clearly displayed so you can see how we arrived at the final score.
- Citations and sourcing: Where specific data points, benchmarks, or claims inform our assessment, we link to or cite the original source so readers can verify the information themselves.
Our approach draws on established consumer research methodologies from organizations like Consumer Reports and Which?, adapted for the specific categories and price ranges we cover.
