At ComfyTechCheck, every product we review is put through a structured, transparent evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrive at the ratings you see on every review.

Our Review Process

We take product reviews seriously. Here's how each review comes together:

  1. Product Selection -- We pick products based on reader interest, market relevance, and new releases. We do not accept payment for coverage.
  2. Hands-On Testing -- Whenever possible, we purchase or obtain products ourselves and test them in real-world conditions. For products we cannot test directly, we conduct extensive research using verified user reports, technical spec analysis, and expert consensus.
  3. Structured Evaluation -- Each product is scored across key criteria relevant to its category (e.g., performance, build quality, battery life, value, features). Scores are aggregated into a final 1–10 rating.
  4. Editorial Review -- Every draft is reviewed by at least one other member of the editorial team for accuracy, fairness, and clarity before publication.
  5. Continuous Updates -- We revisit reviews periodically to reflect price changes, firmware updates, or new competing products. Each review shows its last updated date.

No affiliate partner, manufacturer, or PR agency has editorial control over our content. Our loyalty is to our readers — not to anyone selling products.

Our Rating Scale

Every product we review receives a final score on a 1–10 scale, calculated from weighted criteria relevant to its category (performance, build quality, battery life, value, features, etc.).

ComfyTechCheck only publishes full reviews for products we recommend. Our mission is to help you find great tech, so every review on this site represents a product that earned at least a 7.0 out of 10. Products that score below 7.0 are not recommended and are therefore not published as standalone reviews.

This means you will see ratings concentrated in the 7.0–10 range — not because we inflate scores, but because we only write up products that are genuinely worth your consideration. A score of 7.0–7.9 indicates a solid, capable product with minor drawbacks; 8.0–8.9 represents a very good to excellent product that strongly competes in its category; and 9.0–10 is reserved for outstanding, best-in-class devices.

If a product does not meet our threshold, we may still mention it in roundups or category guides with appropriate context, but it will not receive a dedicated review page or score. We believe this approach serves our readers better than publishing negative reviews for products we would never recommend buying.

How We Review

Our research process combines hands-on testing with rigorous secondary research to ensure every review is thorough and trustworthy. Here is how we gather and verify the information behind each rating:

  • Hands-on testing: When we can obtain a product, we use it as a real owner would for a minimum of several days. We test setup, daily use, durability, and any claimed features.
  • Secondary research: For products we cannot test directly, we compile data from verified purchaser reviews on major retail platforms, technical spec analysis, expert roundups, and long-term user forums.
  • Cross-referencing: We compare findings across multiple authoritative sources, including professional reviewers, standards organizations, and community knowledge bases, to build a consensus view.
  • Transparent scoring: Each review's rating is calculated using our weighted criteria framework (detailed in the methodology section on every review post) and clearly displayed so you can see how we arrived at the final score.
  • Rating scale: We use a clear 0–10 scale so you can quickly gauge a product's standing:
    • 9.0 – 10 -- Excellent. Outstanding in nearly every way. Highly recommended.
    • 8.0 – 8.9 -- Great. Solid performance with minor drawbacks. A strong choice.
    • 7.0 – 7.9 -- Good. Competent and reliable, but has noticeable trade-offs.
    • Below 7.0 -- Not Recommended. Significant issues or poor value that outweigh the positives.
  • Citations and sourcing: Where specific data points, benchmarks, or claims inform our assessment, we link to or cite the original source so readers can verify the information themselves.

Our approach draws on established consumer research methodologies from organizations like Consumer Reports and Which?, adapted for the specific categories and price ranges we cover. We continuously refine our methods as new research standards and testing tools become available.
